Simon Reece

Northwest Coast Native Artist Simon Reece from Tsimshian Nation

Tsimshian Nation

Born in 1978 in Prince Rupert, Simon Reece is both an artist and writer. His father, renowned artist Victor Reece, sadly passed away in 2010. Simon has carried on his father’s artistic legacy by studying the Tsimshian art form, creating stunning artwork, and participating in several contemporary art projects centered around First Nations history. As a writer and activist, Simon is determined to keep the traditional ethics and teachings of his culture as intact as possible for future generations.

Simon worked with Tsimshian/Cree artist Phil Gray between the years 2003 – 2007 with a focus on mask-making. He has also worked with Nuu-chah-nulth artist Joe David. In February of 2008, Simon graduated from the Northwest Coast Jewelry Arts Program at the Native Education College in Vancouver, BC, which was led by Kwakwaka’wakw/Haida artist Dan Wallace.
