Tukikie Manomie, Cape Dorset

Tukikie Manomie was born on December 10, 1952 in Cape Dorset, Nunavut, one of the most prolific areas producing Inuit sculptures in Canada. He has been carving since he was six years old.

Unique among Cape Dorset sculpture is Tukikie Manomie's use of interplay between positive and negative space. He is best known for his conceptual and transformation pieces, which are at times elaborate, with many animals and long bird-necked creatures combined with human faces.

Tukikie's parents, Davidee Mannumi and Paunichea, are carvers, as well as his brothers Qavavau Mannumi and Aqianqaiuk Shaa. Tukikie comes by his craft naturally and has been influenced and inspired by his family's artistic successes.

His gifted talents are recognized and appreciated as demonstrated through exhibitions, collections, and achievements. He has exhibited across Canada, the United States, Germany, France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Belgium.

Exhibition information is available upon request.
