Since 1996, Coastal Peoples Gallery has served the interests of visitors and collectors of First Nations and Inuit art works.  Coastal Peoples recognizes the importance of working hand-in-hand with professional, motivated and conscientious people and how greatly they contribute to the Gallery's overall success.

A Gallery Sales Associate is someone who can establish, build and retain client relationships as well as perform administrative duties.  Sales are what makes the Gallery flourish, so if you have the talent, desire and motivation to meet targets, then we want to meet you.  Aside from your ability to work well with clients, you must be a team player and have the organizational skills and focus to accomplish the day-to-day tasks of running a gallery.  If this sounds like you, then review the qualifications and details of this position and apply.

Position:              Gallery Sales Associate

Hours:                 Full and/or part-time positions available
Location:             Gastown

Overview:

The Gallery Sales Associate position requires a candidate who can establish, build and retain client relationships as well as perform administrative duties.  Sales are what drive our business, so if you have the talent, desire and motivation to meet targets, then we want to meet you.  Aside from your ability to work well with clients, you must be a team player and have the organizational skills and focus to accomplish the day-to-day tasks of gallery operations.  If this sounds like you, then review the qualifications and details of this position and apply.

Qualifications:

Possess a flair for high-end retail sales with professional interpersonal skills is essential
A university or college degree or in pursuit of a post-secondary education in an associated field is an asset
Previous gallery experience is preferred
A strong interest or specific knowledge in Pacific Northwest Coast First Nation's and Inuit art and culture is preferred
Previous office and/or administrative experience required (minimum 3 years)
Mature, self-motivated, self-reliant and capable of working independently
Superior initiative, organizational and time management skills is mandatory
High achiever in professional sales and service
Knowledge of basic marketing and must feel comfortable in promoting art, services and exhibitions
Excellent oral and written skills to communicate, correspond and support pre- and post-sales transactions with clients
Capable of a hands-on style with a willingness to learn, work as a team, and take on new responsibilities as required
Ability to handle and install delicate artwork in a precise and professional manner
Goal oriented in achieving tasks, managing daily activities and meeting strict deadlines
A willingness be resourceful and to pitch in on varied tasks as needed
Expertise in photography with a 35mm and/or digital camera is preferred
Computer knowledge: operating Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet Explorer and Outlook Express is required; operating Photoshop 10.0 or higher is preferred
Experience in maintaining a client database and/or web site is an asset
Ability to work within a flexible weekly schedule
To excel in this position, applicants must demonstrate the desire and dedication to achieve exceptional results
Preference given to applicants who are settled locally and willing to make a longer-term commitment to gallery

Description of Position:

Requires a very mature, confident, dependable individual who will contribute enthusiastically and to take on key gallery responsibilities within a highly professional and intimate team environment
Professional handling of sales in person and online
Providing information and assistance to visitors and public inquiries
Flexibility in performing various day-to-day gallery operations: dealing with the public, displaying artwork, organizing and maintaining extensive jewelry collection, photography, developing and completing new projects, inventory management, assisting in organizing and executing tasks relevant to exhibitions
Assisting the shipping department in preparation of documentation and some packaging
Assisting in research, writing and development of information documenting artists and artwork
Assisting in the development and execution of exhibitions or special events
Database maintenance and prospecting clients
Web site inventory maintenance
Gallery maintenance and cleanliness
