Ding Hutchinson

Haida

Ding Hutchinson was born in Haida Gwaii and belongs to the Raven Clan of the people of Skedan, also known as Koona Llnaagay. Skedan is located at the head of Camshewa Inlet on one of the many Islands of Haida Gwaii. It sits directly across from a Tsimshian village with whom the Skedans traded with regularly.

Carving for over 35 years, Ding is an experienced and talented artist. He was taught to carve by his Uncle, Chief of the Skedans. He has also worked with other talented artists such as Pat Wesley.

Ding Hutchinson’s work reflects his delicate and unique understanding of argillite and silver materials, clearly representative of his professional craftsmanship.
