Henry McKay is a member of the Nisga’a nation, a tribe that inhabits the northern coast of British Columbia. The Nisga’a people have a culture rich with spirituality, myth and creativity. Henry’s artwork exemplifies all these characteristics.
Henry started creating artwork around twenty years ago. His specialty lies in silver and gold jewelry and his attention to detail and traditional Nisga’a design is evident in his work.
Involved in the preservation of his heritage through his artwork, Henry is teaching his son, Sandi, elements of traditional Nisga’a design.
Coastal Peoples was pleased to have Henry participate in their highly anticipated show of November 2001 entitled Spirits Transform by submitting an elaborately engraved sterling silver spoon.
